Jensen Huang visits China: "Influenced by US control...Continued cooperation with China"

As US President Donald Trump restricted exports of NVIDIA's artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor, H20, to China, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang visited China and expressed his will to continue cooperation with China. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang

According to China's state-run CCTV, CEO Huang met with Zhu Renhongbin, chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), during his visit to Beijing on the 17th.

During the meeting, CEO Huang praised China, saying, "China is not only one of the world's largest consumer markets, but also has a dynamic industrial ecosystem with cutting-edge software capabilities," and "It has become a key driving force for NVIDIA's innovation."

He also emphasized, "The US government's semiconductor export controls have already had a significant impact on NVIDIA's business," and "We will continue to optimize our product systems to meet regulatory requirements."

In particular, he reaffirmed the company's steadfast commitment to the Chinese market, which it has built for over 30 years.

His remarks are interpreted as an attempt to minimize the damage caused by the US's export restrictions on the H20 chip. On the 15th (local time), the US Department of Commerce announced that it would apply new export licensing requirements when exporting Nvidia's H20 chip to China.

Nvidia, which has been receiving large orders from China, will inevitably be hit. China is Nvidia's main export market. Nvidia announced that it expects a loss of $5.5 billion (approximately 7.85 trillion won) in the first quarter of its fiscal year (February to April) due to this export restriction.

On the other hand, Huawei, Nvidia's biggest competitor in China, is expected to benefit.

Huawei is selling its self-designed AI accelerator Ascend 910 series to domestic companies. It is a chip manufactured using the 7nm process of SMIC, a domestic foundry company, and is evaluated to be at a similar level to Nvidia's older accelerator A100.

The Ascend 910C, a successor released last year, achieved 60% of the performance of the Nvidia H100 in an inference benchmark run by DeepSec in February.
