Why Antropic from 'OpenAI' is in the Korean market: "AI adoption speed is exploding"

"Korea is seeing a more explosive adoption of AI than any other market. It's a very important region for us."

Mike Krieger, Chief Product Officer (CPO) of Antropic, spoke about why he focused on the Korean market at 'AWS Unicorn Day 2025' held at COEX in Seoul on the morning of the 18th.

'AWS Unicorn Day 2025' is an event that highlights the innovative cases and growth strategies of domestic and foreign unicorn companies, and introduces AWS's latest technology trends and scale-up strategies to help startups make rapid leaps.

Antropic accelerates its conquest of Korea in partnership with AWS

"We're witnessing rapid growth in the Korean market of our products, especially the adoption of APIs in Amazon Bedrock," said CPO Krieger in his keynote speech that day. "This is an incredibly exciting time, and we're at the beginning of a huge uptrend."

Following its attendance at the event that day, Antropic is showing great interest in the Korean market by holding its first official event in Asia, the 'Korea Builder Summit', in Seoul the following day.

Antropic is an AI company established in 2021, founded by experts from OpenAI with the goal of developing safe and responsible AI. It is growing rapidly with the 'Claude' series, which competes with ChatGPT in performance in the field of generative AI. Last month, it released the latest model, Claude 3.7 Sonnet.

Antropic is collaborating with SK Telecom, Naver, etc. in Korea. The close partnership with AWS, the number one private cloud service provider in Korea, is also a positive factor in advancing into the Korean market.

Amazon is also Antropic's largest investor. It is creating synergy by combining Antropic's AI technology with AWS's infrastructure platform. Antropic utilized AWS's AI chip 'Trainium' to learn the latest Claude model and safely processes data through AWS security technology.

CPO Krieger said, "If Claude's role was as an assistant who increased work productivity last year, this year he will be a collaborator who performs independent, expert-level work. By 2027, he will be an innovator who cannot solve problems that cannot be solved by a team."

AWS, comprehensive support for the Korean startup ecosystem

AWS is expanding support in various directions so that global unicorns like Antropic can be born in Korea.

Kim Young-tae, AWS Korea Senior Sales Manager, explained, "90% of global AI and machine learning (ML) unicorns are utilizing AWS infrastructure," and "The stability, scalability, and rich community that AWS provides are the main reasons why AI startups choose AWS."

AWS provides generative AI solutions in three major stages. At the lowest level, it supports AI model learning and infrastructure through Amazon SageMaker, and reduces costs and improves model learning speed through AI-specific chips such as AWS Trainium and Inferentia.

Next, it accelerates generative AI development through Amazon Bedrock and Amazon's latest foundation model 'Nova'. Nova offers a variety of models specialized in text, image, and video creation.

At the top, it supports workflow automation and software development process optimization through Amazon Q Business and Amazon Q Developer. It

also runs programs for Korean startups to advance into the global market. It is currently running the 'Jungle' global collaboration program with the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Korea Institute of Startups and Entrepreneurship Development, the generative AI accelerator program, and the global CVC collaboration program.

Lee Ki-hyeok, head of AWS Korea Startup Ecosystem, said, "We plan to support Korean startups to become competitive in the B2B SaaS AI sector. The main target countries are Silicon Valley in the U.S. and Japan." "Out of the 40 startups selected in the Asia Pacific region last year, 25 Korean companies got opportunities to collaborate with global companies. This year, we will provide opportunities to more startups."
