Space Verification Satellite 2 Payload Selection to be Launched with Nuriho 5th Launch in 2026

The Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) and the Korea Space Administration (KSAA) announced the results of the public contest for the payload of the Space Verification Satellite 2 of the 'Domestic Component and Component Space Verification Support Project (Space Verification Project)' on



the 13th. The space verification project is a project to support space verification of domestic electric and electronic component and semiconductor research results with an investment of 12 billion won over four years from 2024 to 2027.

A verification platform based on cube satellite (12U class, 1U = 10cm x 10cm x 10cm) was developed to load components and parts developed by domestic companies into boards and modules up to 8U, and support verification in a space environment.



The payloads of the space verification satellite 2 selected this time include SK Hynix's DRAM and UFS, Insera Solution's high-speed and high-precision adjustment mirror, Momentum Space's reaction wheel, KAIST's attitude determination and system module, Cosmobee's Class 1A hollow cathode for electric thruster, and Intergravity Technologies' orbital transport avionics equipment test bed. They will be used to support space verification using the 5th launch of Nuriho scheduled for 2026.



The main body of the space verification satellite selected last year is being developed by Nara Space Technology in collaboration with the Korea Aerospace Research Institute. The 1st payload of the space verification satellite will be loaded onto Nuriho 4, scheduled to be launched at the end of this year, to support space verification.



Han Chang-heon, director of the Aerospace Industry Bureau of the Korea Space Agency, said, "Through this project, technological competitiveness and self-reliance will be enhanced by space verification and securing space history of components and devices developed domestically, and it will also have a positive effect on developing sales channels for domestic components and devices." He added, "We will continue to do our best for the growth and development of the space industry."
