SK Hynix to supply HBM4 12-layer samples... Mass production in the second half

SK Hynix announced on the 19th that it has provided samples of its new HBM4 12-layer ultra-high-performance DRAM for artificial intelligence (AI) to major customers for the first time in the world.

The customers that were supplied with samples this time are presumed to be big tech companies in the US such as Nvidia and Broadcom.



SK Hynix emphasized, "Based on the technological competitiveness and production experience that have led the HBM market, we will ship HBM4 12-layer samples earlier than originally planned and begin the certification process with customers," and "We will also complete mass production preparations within the second half of the year to solidify our position in the next-generation AI memory market."



The HBM 12-layer product provided as a sample this time has the world's best speed that AI memory should have. This product is the first to implement a bandwidth capable of processing more than 2 TB (terabytes) of data per second. This is equivalent to processing data equivalent to more than 400 5 GB FHD movies in just one second, which is more than 60% faster than its predecessor.



In addition, by applying the Advanced MR-MUF process, we have implemented the highest capacity of 36GB based on HBM 12-layer. Through this process, we have controlled the chip warpage and improved heat dissipation performance to maximize product stability.



Starting with HBM3 in 2022, SK hynix has been successful in mass production for the first time in the industry with HBM3E 8-layer last year and 12-layer this year.
