Naver Makes Follow-up Investment in AI-Based Real-Time Motion Capture Startup ‘Moobin’

Naver's startup incubation and strategic investment organization, D2 Startup Factory (D2SF), announced on the 20th that it had made a follow-up investment in AI-based real-time markerless motion capture technology startup 'Moobin'. An

Naver D2SF explained that it discovered Moobin during the preliminary startup stage, made a seed investment in 2023, and made a follow-up investment after focusing on its product development performance and future growth potential.

Moobin has developed a real-time markerless motion capture technology using a LiDAR (a laser that measures the distance and size between objects) sensor. By using a LiDAR sensor, spatial information such as distance and depth can be secured without distortion, allowing for more precise capture of 3D joints, bone structures, and angles. Its characteristic is that it can capture motion in real time because it allows immediate data processing without complex post-processing. Its price competitiveness and accessibility are also considered strengths, as it does not require separate markers or sensors.

Currently, Mubin is launching its first core product, 'Mubin Tracing', and is advancing into the overseas market. It has already secured more than 50 game and VFX (visual effects) companies in 11 countries around the world as its customers. It plans to launch a platform that generates and provides 3D motion data in the second half of this year.

Naver D2SF supported Mubin to build a motion dataset using the infrastructure of the '1784' building. It is also seeking collaboration points with Naver's virtual technology and business organizations.

Yang Sang-hwan, head of the Naver D2SF Center, said, "3D motion data is essential for AI to understand human movement and behavior, and demand will increase in various fields such as robotics and medicine beyond the entertainment industry such as games." He added, "Mubin is a rapidly growing team, and we expect its expansion beyond 3D motion capture to a 3D motion data platform in the future."

Naver D2SF has continuously disclosed five new investments during the first quarter of this year. We are actively pursuing new investments and follow-up investments in various fields such as AI, virtual tech, and mobility, both domestically and internationally. We are currently recruiting new investment teams, and the campus technology startup competition that discovered Moobin is also scheduled to begin recruiting in early April.
