Samsung maintains No. 1 position in DRAM market share... SK Hynix close behind
Last year, in the fourth quarter, the total sales of the global memory industry exceeded 40 trillion won, driven by increased shipments of high value-added DRAMs such as high-bandwidth memory (HBM).
While the market share of Samsung Electronics, which ranked first, slightly decreased, SK Hynix followed suit, strengthening its position through increased shipments of its fifth-generation product, HBM3E.

According to market research firm TrendForce on the 27th, the sales of the global DRAM industry in the fourth quarter of last year were tallied at 28 billion dollars (40.376 trillion won), up 9.9% from the previous quarter.
This was due to the increase in the contract price of DDR5 and the increase in shipments of HBM, and the profits of the top three DRAM suppliers (Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Micron) continued to expand.
Samsung Electronics maintained its position as the top DRAM supplier with sales of $11.25 billion (approximately KRW 16.2225 trillion), up 5.1% from the previous quarter.
However, its market share slightly dropped from 41.1% in the third quarter to 39.3% in the fourth quarter. Samsung Electronics' DRAM shipments decreased due to inventory of PCs and smartphones, and it only began intensive HBM shipments at the end of last year.
SK Hynix grew 16.9% quarter-on-quarter to $10.46 billion (approximately KRW 15.833 trillion) in sales, driven by increased shipments of HBM3E. Its
market share also increased from 34.4% to 36.6%, narrowing the gap with Samsung Electronics.
Micron, in third place, recorded sales of $6.4 billion (approximately KRW 9.2288 trillion) and took 22.4% of the market share.
TrendForce forecasts that the first quarter of this year will be a "traditional off-season" for the market, with DRAM prices expected to decline as demand from cloud service providers (CSPs) weakens.
