"The package has arrived" I opened the door and there was a 'Baemin robot'... Service begins in Gangnam, Seoul

Woowa Brothers, the operator of the delivery app Baedal Minjok (Baemin), announced on the 25th that it will provide B Mart (Immediate Grocery Delivery) robot delivery service in some areas of Nonhyeon-dong and Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.

This robot delivery service, introduced with Woowa Brothers' own technology, provides grocery and shopping services centered around B Mart urban distribution centers (PPC) in the Gangnam area of Seoul. It delivers to approximately 300 building entrances within a maximum radius of 1.5km based on the PPC in approximately 30 minutes. The plan is to expand the range to over 1,000 locations after May.

The robot delivery service is available from 2 PM to 9 PM on weekdays. Users can order products through the B Mart Baedal Minjok app in the Nonhyeon and Yeoksam robot delivery areas of Seoul Gangnam and select robot delivery as the delivery method. When

the robot carrying the products from B Mart PPC passes 100m before arrival, a text message of 'Notification of arrival soon' will be sent to the customer. When the robot arrives at the delivery location, the customer can open the robot's loading box through the product receipt page and receive the products.

This service is operated unmanned without the on-site presence of operating personnel. The delivery robot 'Deli' can load up to 20kg and moves at a speed of 1.5m/s, similar to the speed of a person walking briskly. It is dustproof and waterproof IP54 rated, so it can operate normally except in bad weather. A total of 4 delivery robots will be deployed this time, and Woowa Brothers plans to deploy additional robots depending on the number of orders and expansion of the area.

The company emphasized that it has made thorough preparations for safety during delivery. An official from Woowa Brothers explained, "For example, if a car appears at high speed in an alley, it immediately recognizes it and stops driving, and starts driving again when the obstacle blocking the road is removed." They added, "We have increased visual recognition for pedestrians and drivers by installing flags and reflectors, and we have increased stability and efficiency through active autonomous driving that slows down when there are a lot of people or obstacles in the surrounding environment, and increases the speed when there are not."

Hwang Hyeon-gyu, head of the Robot Product Strategy Team at Woowa Brothers, said, "We plan to introduce our self-developed delivery robot to the rapidly growing quick commerce (product delivery within a short period of time) market to increase delivery convenience and advance robot technology and services. "In the future, we will allow more customers to experience the convenience of robot delivery through linkages with food delivery services."
